Had a pretty great week. Last weekend, Talk Radio closed on Broadway and the cast had a charming closing night party at the pub next door. I actually had a blind date (I Know!) and invited the guy to come to the closing party. I’m now going to write this blog as though I went on a “Meet Market” date like they have in the Post on Sundays:
She said:
I arrived at the bar with my friend Jordan and said hello to all the peeps that I needed to say hello to. I was a little nervous, as I knew that Craig would be arriving any minute. My friend Jordan was also nervous, and kept asking me, “babe, aren’t you nervous????” Yes, Jordan, I was. But I was trying to keep it together by downing a quick glass of Pinot Grigio.
Craig arrived and I recognized him right away. Yes, he looked like his picture. We said hello, and I explained that this was the closing night of a Broadway show that my friend was in and it was open bar. His eyes sparkled and I knew that we spoke the same language.
After a pinot grigio (yes, I passed it off as my first one!) we found a pretty terrific seat outside. I found Craig to be charming, funny and easy to talk to. Luckily, he was as outgoing as I am, and even found a mutual friend at this party. I didn’t feel like I needed to take care of him socially, which is a big plus.
In terms of conversation, it flowed as easily as the wine. Craig has a dog and seems as enamored as I am of mine. He also seems to have a good relationship with his family, which is crucial. I’ve gone on a few dates where the person hates their family, and I just end up feeling guilty about how terrific mine is. He also seems to have an active social life and a rewarding career so we seemed to have much in common.
After the Talk Radio party ended, we decided to go downtown and have dinner. It’s at this point where my memory becomes a little flush with pinot grigio. We went to a tiny little restaurant that had a very rustic decor and terrific red wine. I don’t know where it was, as Craig drove and I wasn’t really paying attention. Anyway, after a lovely dinner (details get a bit sketchy here) Craig drove me all the way home, which I thought was very gentlemanly.
Personally, I thought that was a very successful date. Craig is really cute and someone I could actually imagine being friends with. I have no idea if he would like to go on a second date, but if he isn’t, I’m going to suggest that we hang out as friends because I think my social circle, while large, could definitely benefit by someone like him. And for me personally, it was just nice to go on a date where I actually had fun…hopefully it will make me more adventurous about dating in the future!
Whew! I did it, went on a date. It is a week later and Craig has not asked me on a second date, but I still view the entire experience as positive. In general, had a terrific yet exhausting week post date. And now we get to the reason for the title of this post. Yesterday, while I was struggling through a hangover at a neighborhood barbecue, Guinness called me from his new Apple IPhone. I was all prepared not to want an IPhone due to the issues with the battery etc. But the phone sounds amazing and now I want it. I tried to get out of my T-Mobile contract via lies and truth mixed together expertly. But no, they just kept offering me a new T-Mobile phone! IT SUCKED. So now, I’m really considering breaking my contract for 200 and buying a 500 dollar phone.
Hey isn’t that what new credit cards are for?
