Cabo 2007

Monday, December 31st, 2007

It’s been a while since I’ve posted as this particular Christmas season has been jam-packed.

The few weeks before Christmas are a blur of holiday parties, theater-going and more holiday parties so I’ll skip that update and just start when I traveled to Cabo San Lucas to visit my family.

On Saturday the 22nd, I woke at a reasonable hour and traveled to La Guardia Airport to fly at 2:22pm.  The weather was good and all planes seemed to be on schedule.  I was a little nervous as I had a connecting flight in Dallas and my layover was only an hour.  Our plane was a little delayed, but luckily we arrived in time for me to make my connecting flight.  Dallas apparently had been dealing with major delays all day so the general vibe in that airport was one of panic.  My flight was delayed, but finally we left.  I arrived in Cabo quite late and took a shuttle to Cabo San Lucas.  (The airport is in San Jose del Cabo and my parents live in Cabo San Lucas, about 45 minutes away.  This is why the airport and destination are commonly called Los Cabos.)

So, it was after midnight when I finally arrived at my parents house.

The next day, the man that I have been dating, Chris, arrived.  We went to bed early because we decided to go deep sea fishing very early the next day.  We had to wake up at 5am.  The deep sea fishing was fantastic.  TWO MARLINS!  Grandpa, Chris and I basically had a fabulous time.  And once again, it was proven that I don’t get on a boat without catching a Marlin.  The pressure is mounting.

The next day was Christmas Eve and my mother had a party at her house.  It was a delicious dinner and lots of drinking.  Several of her friends came over and also my stepmom and dad (who have a place in San Jose Del Cabo.)  We started playing Pictionary and there was one woman who just kept shouting “Blow Job!”  Finally, Chris started calling her Blow Job when it was our turn to go, as she was on our team.  He would say “Where’s Blow Job?” and everyone would laugh.  I think its funnier when you are 6′6 with a bass voice.  So Imagine that.  Chris was a great sport and all the women thought he was really fine.  Which he is.  But more than that, he was really easy going and playful and got along with everyone.  Plus, he was on my team and we won!  Hoorah!

The next day was Christmas and we celebrated by going to the beach and drinking beers.  It was great.  Chanell, Dave and Baz arrived later that night.  My mom cooked a delicious filet for Christmas dinner.  IT rocked.

The next few days were just a flurry of arrivals and early mornings as Chris went fishing.  Unfortunately, I have a cold that I’m STILL fighting and it was getting me down a little bit.  Finally, everyone had arrived by Friday the 28th.

It was then discovered that Chris really is a good Cabo partner for me.  He has no interest in going downtown and drinking and clubbing!  Me neither!  So, there was only one night when we sort of half-heartedly attempted and that was Saturday night.  All the younger generation went to a fabulous dinner at LA Golanderia, which is a fine restaurant owned by the people who run the famous Trailer Park Restaurant down here.  We had an amazing meal and decided to go “OUT.”

First stop was the Nowhere Bar, which is located on the Marina.  I could already tell that Chris wanted to go home but I felt the eternal pressure from the sibs to stay and party.  Esther Ammon is down here and I thought she also might want to party, so I felt really bad to leave so early.  But, it was obvious that Chris wanted to go, and he was sort of being a downer!  Sorry Chris!  But it was true.   I decided to lay the groundwork with the fam that we would be leaving soon so we didn’t get called out!

We saw John Mayer there at Nowhere Bar, so there was at least one celebrity sighting.  We then moved onto El Squid Roe, which is the main nightspot in Cabo.  The joint was jumping so it was easy to escape and go home!

So Chris and I spent our last night together having a very nice romantic night and then I really appreciated his bad attitude downtown!  Boy did I!  I knew that I should just listen to him in the future because he’s always right.  :)

The next morning, my cold was really bothering me…my earache was back and it was really sucking.  Plus we had to drive Chris to the airport which sucks!  Jack and I drove him and said goodbye.  We had a really nice time and he said he had fun so hopefully he will call me again when he gets back to NYC.  As we all know from reading this blog, I have a terrible time finding anyone that I like, so I’m trying not to count my chickens.

Then disaster struck!  The entire family went to brunch at a beautiful golf course/resort just outside of Cabo.  I overate!  It was delicious.  But then I was walking back from looking around and I fell!  Hard!  Basically what happened was i was looking at our table and thinking “where’s Baz?” and my poor vision combined with not really paying attention made me think there was only one step down to the dining area when there was a second sneaky step that is the exact same stone and color as the floor.  The waiter said “No more mimosas!” but I wasn’t even tipsy.  I’m just blind.

I’m starting to think that perhaps I will need to get contact lenses.  I’m really fucking blind.  Anyway.  It was humiliating and very painful and my knee is completely fucked up!

Anyway.

The rest of the day was spent relaxing and walking around downtown Cabo.

Today is my last day and we will be packing, cleaning up and going to relax at the beach.  Fun!

Happy New Year!
